Pyrus Malus Fruit Extract.
Origin: The tree originated in Central Asia, where its wild ancestor, Malus sieversii, is still found today. Apple trees are cultivated worldwide and are the most widely grown species in the genus Malus.
Skin benefits: Apple fruit extract contains several types of flavonoids (i.e., catechins, flavanols, and quercetin). Flavonoids possess antioxidant activity, which helps to protect the skin from free radical damage caused by things like UV exposure, pollution and other environmental factors.
Apple fruit extract also contains pectin, a type of fiber. A study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science found that apple pectin can promote epidermal growth and improve the skin barrier function.
Apple extract is loaded as well with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), malic acid being the most abundant, these acids break up the proteins that hold the skin cells together, helping to slough off the dead skin that gives your skin a dull appearance. Thus, Pyrus Malus Fruit Extract is a natural chemical exfoliator, brightening and toning skin with minimal risk.
